The Pakistan embassy yesterday observed the ‘Kashmir Solidarity Day.’
The objective was to “express solidarity with the people of Kashmir in their struggle for the realisation of their fundamental and inalienable rights.”

Pakistan ambassador Shahzad Ahmad graced the occasion, which witnessed a large gathering, comprising academics as well as Pakistani and Kashmiri community members.
Messages of the president and the prime minister of Pakistan were read out to the audience.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif asserted that “Pakistan is committed to a just and peaceful resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute based on United Nations (UN) resolutions.
“Pakistan reminds the international community of its responsibilities in the matter and urges it to fulfil its promise made with the people of Jammu and Kashmir 68 years ago.
“Peace in the region will remain elusive until the resolution of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the will of the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” he added.
In his message, the Pakistan President Mamnoon Hussain said that “the Kashmir issue remains the unfinished agenda of the partition and the longest unfulfilled agenda of the UN. Numerous resolutions of the UN on Kashmir remain pending because of ‘the Indian obstinacy’ in implementing them.
“We urge India and the international community to fulfil the promise made to the people of Jammu and Kashmir 68 years ago,” said the president.  
A short documentary was screened for the audience. It depicted the alleged human rights violations committed by the Indian armed forces in Kashmir.
Prominent Kashmiri Dr Azhar Iqbal Qureshi, an active volunteer for the rights of Kashmiris, was the keynote speaker. The other speaker was leading Kashmiri businessman Rashid Iqbal Khan, who has been working to raise awareness regarding the issue at different platforms. Both the speakers stressed the need for a swift resolution of the Kashmir issue.
In his address, ambassador Ahmad, reiterated Pakistan’s principled stance on Kashmir and pointed out that “Pakistan will continue to support people of Jammu and Kashmir politically and diplomatically.”
He urged the “international community especially the UN to resolve the issue in accordance with its resolutions and aspirations of the Kashmiri population.”
