The bodies of three Indian housemaids who were killed in two different incidents in the last 10 days were repatriated over the last two days, sources in the community said.
Yesterday, the mortal remains of Badagu Ramalakshmi, a 32-year-old woman, who was killed in a road accident on January 27, was flown to Hyderabad. Two Qataris belonging to one family were also killed in the accident which took place while the family members were on their way to Abu Samra.
On Friday, the bodies of Pothula Pushapavathi (52) and Kunche Manga (52), both of whom died of inhaling smoke from a faulty room heater at their accommodation in Kharitiyat area were sent home. The incident took place on January 29. The two maids were said to be relatives.
Humanitarian workers Abdul Salam Palakkad and N Ali thanked the sponsors of the deceased and the Indian embassy for helping them in repatriating the bodies.
Two Chrysler models recalled
The Ministry of Economy and Commerce has announced the recall of 2005-2007 Grand Cherokee and Jeep Commander models due to a defect in the ignition lock cylinder.
The ministry said that the recall being made in co-operation with United Cars Almana (UCA), the dealer of Jeep vehicles, came within the framework of ongoing coordination and follow-up by the ministry to ascertain the extent of car dealerships’ commitment to follow up vehicles’ defects and repair them to protect consumers’ rights.
The ministry also stressed that it would co-ordinate with the dealership to follow up maintenance and repair operations and will communicate with customers to ensure implementation of the procedures to fix defects.
