A Doha criminal court has sentenced an expatriate to two years in jail for taking a woman's picture from her Facebook account and posting it on an account created by him.
The man has also been directed to pay a fine of QR30,000, local Arabic daily Al Sharq has reported.
The matter came to light when one of the woman's friends came across her photograph on a stranger's account. He contacted the defendant. However, it soon led to an argument and the two started exchanging insults and accusations, according to the daily.
The defendant was attempting to start a relationship with the woman, it was found.
The court convicted the defendant of violating the privacy of the woman and misusing her private information. It also ordered the confiscation of all the electronic equipment used in the case.
The court, though, dropped charges pertaining to insults based on a request from all the parties involved.
