Employees, their families join MTC’s Sport Day celebrations

A number of government and semi-government entities yesterday marked National Sport Day with special activities for their employees and their families.
The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) and its subsidiaries marked the day at Al Ahnaf Independent Preparatory School at Dafna Area. The participating entities included the Civil Aviation Authority, Qatar Aeronautical College, Qatar Airways, Qatar Railways Company (Qatar Rail), Hamad Port, Hamad International Airport, Mowasalat Company (Karwa), and Qatar Ports
Management Company.
HE the Minister of Transport and Communications Jassim Seif Ahmed al-Sulaiti stressed the importance of National Sport Day in encouraging people to adopt a healthy and active lifestyle, which would reflect positively on their productivity and is considered a great investment in humans.
Qatar Airways Group chief executive Akbar al-Baker said: “We are happy to take part at the activities of National Sport Day with distinguished presence of coaches from Barcelona Club and entertainment activities by Bayern Munich.”
Civil Aviation Authority chairman Abdullah Nasser al-Subaie stressed the prominent role of sport in strengthening of social ties at work.
Qatar Aeronautical College director general Sheikh Jabor bin Hamad al-Thani pointed out that adopting a national day for sport stresses its developmental and strategic importance.
Qatar Rail managing director Abdulla Abdulaziz al-Subaie said: “National Sport Day is a great chance for the company to spread the culture of walking for short distances, especially when going to Doha Metro stations in the future”.
Mowasalat CEO Khalid Nasser al-Hail highlighted the company’s deep belief in the importance of sport as a healthy behaviour to build the mind and body.
Qatar Ports Management Co CEO Capt Abdulla al-Khanji expressed happiness in participating in the activities organised by the Ministry.
Around 4,000 employees and their families of MTC and its subsidiaries took part in activities including cycling, football, volleyball, basketball, and a variety of other games.
The General Authority of Customs (GAC) conducted a variety of activities at Al Arabi Sports Club, with special focus on walking and football matches among the employees of the different departments.
A special health check-up of GAC employees was held in collaboration with Qatar Red Crescent Society, to make sure they are fit to take part in the activities.
GAC president Ahmed bin Ali al-Muhannadi said it is very important for all employees to maintain an active lifestyle because it positively
reflects on their daily work duties.
The Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC) organised a number of sport activities for its employees and their families at Katara - the
Cultural Village Foundation.
Qatar Chamber also marked the day with a special programme that gathered many of its employees and board members in a number of activities, stressing the importance of sport in promoting business in the country.
