Dance performances, colourful clothing and delicious food from 22 countries will feature at the annual International Day festival of the University of Calgary in Qatar (UCQ) from 12:30pm to 5:30pm, this Saturday.
International Day, held at the university campus, is open to the public, and will host students, faculty, and staff. Entering its fourth year, this tradition aims to enrich students’ learning experience, inviting members of UCQ and the wider community to learn about each other and the world.
The event is attended by a number of notable guests this year - including Adrian Norfolk, ambassador of Canada. “Our campus in Qatar is exceptionally diverse with respect to those who learn and teach here. The International Day brings together community members from a large and always expanding group of nations,” emphasised Dr Kim Critchley, dean and CEO, UCQ.
Events like International Day not only expose members of the UCQ community to unique perspectives, but also point to the similarities between cultures. Such exchange is especially crucial for nursing students, who will care for patients from across the world during their careers. International Day complements the formal training UCQ provides and reflects a truly holistic approach to education.
