Contrasting wins for Gharafa, Al Sadd

Abdulkader Salem scored a game-high 29 points as Al Gharafa thrashed Qatar Sports Club 101-59 in the Qatar Basketball League last evening.
At the Al Gharafa Hall, the hosts ran roughshod over their hapless rivals to win by a 42-point margin, one of the highest in the history of the tournament.
Al Gharafa were 21-3 up in the first 10 minutes and enjoyed a whopping 38 point lead (51-13) when the second quarter ended.
The mauling continued unabated after that with Qatar Sports Club virtually giving up the fight.
Aiding Salem in the onslaught was Mohamed Saad with 24 points, including four three-pointers, while Hasino Ndoye and Dwayne Galloway had 14 each.
For Qatar Sports Club, Consteveous Jefferson and Anthony White scored 23 and 15 points respectively.
In the second match of the day, Al Sadd edged Al Rayyan 67-64 in a see saw game with Suliman Abdi top-scoring for the winners with 24 points.
Al Sadd had taken a 20-15 lead after the first quarter, but Rayyan caught up and led by a point after the second and third period.
The close contest continued in the deciding session and with just two and a half minutes remaining, the teams were level at 63-all thanks to a free throw by Dominic Davon.
However, Saeed Erfan Ali produced a magic moment with a fine three-pointer to give Al Sadd a crucial 66-63 advantage that turned the match in their favour.
Al Sadd then scored a point off a free throw and then restricted Rayyan to just one more point to pull off a thrilling win.
Saeed Erfan ali scored 14 for the winners while Anthony Raffa and Deba Kone had 12 and 11 respectively.
Dominic Davon was the leading scorer for Al Rayyan with 21.
