A delegation of members from the European Parliament (EP) has lauded the goals and objectives enshrined in the Qatar National Vision 2030.

"Qatar's efforts to enhance the competence and abilities of its human resources would go a long way to make its people aware of their strengths and weaknesses in every area of their life," said Andrej Plenkovic, the delegation leader and a Parliament member from Croatia.

"We are also impressed by Qatar's ongoing efforts to diversify its economy further so that there would be less reliance on the revenues from hydrocarbons in the future," he explained during an interaction with journalists in Doha.

Plenkovic said their interactions with officials and Shura Council members helped them understand the real strengths and capabilities of the Qatari people.

The delegation's talks with the Qatar Central Bank Governor was very informative and they got a clear picture of the monetary and fiscal policies of the country. "It is heartening that Qatar continued to have a strong GDP and enjoy a strong economy notwithstanding a fall in revenues from hydrocarbons sector," the delegation's head said.

The delegation members said the EU members are looking forward to enhance their co-operation with Gulf states on issues pertaining to the Free Trade Agreement between the two regions. The possibilities for enhancing business and economic opportunities would be improved through the negotiations on the EU-GCC Free Trade Agreement,' according to Plenkovic.

Answering a query on the ongoing refugee crisis in Europe, the team leader hoped the Gulf states would make a realistic assessment of the whole situation and work together with the EU countries for reaching an effective solution.

Besides Plenkovic, who is the vice-chair of the committee, the other members of the delegation were Arnaud Danjean, Tokia Saifi (France), Afzal Khan (UK), Pier Antonio Panzeri (Italy), Mark Demesmaeker (Belgium) and Jazo Rados (Croatia).

EU Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Adam Kulach was also present.
