Qatar Petrochemical Company’s (Qapco) National Sport Day (NSD) celebration marked the culmination of the company’s flagship corporate weight-loss programme, ‘Lose to Win.’
The programme is part of Qapco’s annual ‘Be Fit, Be Healthy, Be Happy’ campaign. For 12 months, the company encourages its employees to adopt healthy diets and to embrace more active lifestyles with the support of health and nutrition professionals, in co-operation with the Hamad Medical Corporation.
The programme has so far attracted 500 employees who underwent various physical activities and monthly monitoring.
The three employees who made significant improvement on their weight-loss and active lifestyle journey were recognised during the NSD celebration and became an inspiration for many.
Qapco and Qatofin CEO and managing director Dr Mohamed Yousef al-Mulla said the fitness and well-being of its employees and their knowledge of health-related issues is a priority.
The company organises a number of health-oriented initiatives year round to promote healthy lifestyles amongst its employees and the community.
Aligned with the principles of the Qatar National Vision 2030, Qapco believes that sport will support a sustainable future for generations to come.
A large number of Qapco employees and their families took part in the NSD celebration held recently at the company’s Sports Club in Mesaieed.
The event featured an array of sports activities such as football, handball and volleyball matches, bowling tournaments, basketball games, spinning and cross-fit workouts. Part of Qapco’s aim is to encourage young children to embrace healthy lifestyles and to practice sport everyday.
“The NSD is an excellent opportunity to promote the regular practice of sports amongst our employees and to encourage them to do the same with their children,” Dr al-Mulla said.
“It is our responsibility as parents to transfer the values associated with sport to the future generations.”
He believes that every one can contribute to build a healthier and fitter nation.
Dr al-Mulla highlighted the importance of sport as it strengthens teamwork and corporate culture, fosters social integration and reinforces cohesion. “Sport has contributed to shaping the Qapco family and our Mesaieed community.”
