Qatar SC added to Al Sadd’s woes by beating the former champions 1-0 in their Qatar Stars League (QSL) clash yesterday.
Emiliano Gabriel scored the only goal of the match off a penalty kick in the 80th minute. Al Sadd have now gone four matches without a win in QSL.
In the match played at Suhaim Bin Hamad Stadium, Qatar SC picked up three points with a feisty show. Al Sadd’s Salem recklessley brought down Qatar SC’s Gamal on the edge of the box in the 79th minute. The referee correctly pointed to the spot kick. A calm collected Emiliano scored off the penalty kick, going to the right of the diving Al Sadd goalkeeper.
It was Qatar SC’s first win in seven matches. Qatar SC coach Sebastiao Lazaroni celebrated the final whistle with his hands raised towards the night sky.
Al Sadd with 29 points are in fifth place behind Al Rayyan (51), El Jaish (36), Lekhwiya (34) and Al Arabi (30). Thirteenth-placed Qatar SC have 14 points from 18 matches.
Nemeth helps Gharafa draw against Jaish
Earlier in the day, former champions Al Gharafa grabbed a point off second-placed El Jaish in a controversy-marred round 18 clash.
Krisztian Nemeth slipped one home from close range to help Al Gharafa equalise in the 87th minute of the tense match At Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium.
Earlier, Abderrazzaq Hamed?allah opened the scoring for El Jaish in the 7th minute. Nemeth equalized for Al Gharafa in the 61st minute.
In the 72nd minute, substitute Romario Ricardo Silva fired home a free-kick that went through the hands of Al Gharafa goalkeeper Qasem Abdulihamed Burhan.
After a few tense exchanges, Al Gharafa found the back of the El Jaish net when Nemeth wrapped a neat move orchestrated by Abulrahmman Fayez Alrashidi.
The goal immediately sparked shoving and pushing among Al Gharafa and El Jaish players. The referee and match officials had to intervene to keep tempers at bay.
In a game that El Jaish should have won now sees the Sabri Lamouchi’s men at second spot in the QSL points race.
El Jaish have 36 points from 18 rounds while Al Gharafa are in 10th place with just 22 points.
