HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid al-Mahmoud met the Joint AU-UN Special Representative for Darfur, head of UNAMID and Joint Chief Mediator Dr Martin Ihoeghian Uhomoibhi, and his accompanying delegation. During the meeting, they discussed ways of enhancing the peace process in Darfur and the efforts made to involve the Darfur armed movements, that had not signed the “Doha Document for Peace in Darfur”, in the peace process, on the basis of the document. Head of the UNAMID hailed Qatar’s important role to establish peace in Darfur, and its role in the reconstruction and development of Darfur. For his part, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs praised the efforts exerted by the UNAMID, wishing Dr Uhomoibhi success in his efforts. Dr Martin Ihoeghian Uhomoibhi of Nigeria was recently appointed as Joint Special Representative for Darfur and Head of the African Union-United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur.
