The Qatar Met department has warned of a drop in visibility due to foggy conditions in the early hours of Thursday and Friday, followed by a gradual rise in temperatures over the next few days.
It has advised people to remain cautious in view of the expected poor visibility and follow latest weather updates.
According to a statement issued by the department, weather charts indicated that relative humidity was expected to increase at night, accompanied by light winds, and the conditions were favourable for the formation of mist/fog patches over most parts of the country in the early hours of Thursday. This, in turn, could cause visibility to drop to less than 400m in some areas.
There are chances of mist/fog patches in the early hours of Friday as well.
The weather office has also predicted a gradual increase in temperature from Friday, continuing until the middle of next week, due to the “extension of Sudan’s heat low over the region, accompanied by southeasterly to southwesterly light to moderate winds, which are expected to freshen (strengthen) on February 22 with a chance of blowing dust, especially in the western areas”.
The temperature rise is likely to reach its peak on Saturday and Sunday, during which the mercury level will be 3-6C higher than the average. In Doha, the maximum temperature is expected to range between 26C and 29C and the minimum between 16C and 19C during this period, according to the weather report.
Sea conditions are expected to remain suitable for sailing during this period and there are no warnings.
The detailed forecast for Thursday says it will be misty to foggy at first in most areas, followed by moderate temperature during the day along with some clouds.
Offshore areas, meanwhile, are likely to be partly cloudy.
The minimum and maximum temperatures in the country are expected to be 12C and 26C, respectively, with the forecast for Doha being 16C and 25C.
