Nepal Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli yesterday said his visit to India was very successful and his government was ready to address any genuine problems concerning the constitution.
“My visit is very successful,” Oli told newspersons in New Delhi.
Asked about the possibility of people in the Terai region again resorting to agitation over their demands relating to Nepal’s new constitution, Oli said: “There is no need for any such step.”
He said the Nepal government has an open mind. “We are ready to listen. We are ready to address if there are any genuine problems.”
Oli’s state visit to India at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which began on February 19, will go on till February 24.
Oli visited Tehri hydel project in Uttarakhand state earlier yesterday and is scheduled to visit Gujarat and Maharashtra.
On Saturday, the Nepal PM said the relations of his country with India were very important, and he was in India to clear “misunderstandings” that surfaced in the recent past.
“The main mission of my visit is to clear misunderstandings that surfaced in the last few months and to take back our relations to the same level of enthusiasm when Modi-ji visited Nepal in August 2014,” Oli said.
The first prime minister of Nepal to visit India after the new constitution came into being in the Himalayan country, Oli said the two countries have a lot in common and their relations were beyond formality.
He thanked India for all the support it provided to Nepal over the years for its developmental work in various fields.
Oli thanked Modi for providing spontaneous support to Nepal after the earthquake in April last year that killed nearly 9,000 people and destroyed property worth crores.
“The support and solidarity shown by our friends from India turns the heads of Nepalese people,” he said.
“We are equally appreciate of the support of India in our reconstruction drive.”
Nepal set to benefit from port: Nepal is set to benefit from the Visakhapatnam port in India with the two sides signing two letters of exchange (LoEs).
The LoEs were signed following delegation-level talks headed by India Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his visiting Nepalese counterpart K P Sharma Oli.
While one LoE will provide for transit facilities for Nepal through the Visakhapatnam port, the other will allow for rail transport between Visakhapatnam and Nepal.
Abhay Gupta, secretary (north) in the ministry of external affairs, said in a media briefing that till now Nepal could not use the Visakhapatnam port for third country export and
import.
“There are some designated customs points. So, what this LoE essentially does is it notifies this route and it allows Nepalese export and import to happen through Visakhapatnam port in addition to other existing ports,” he said.
“So, whenever a new transit point or crossing point is to be notified, then this procedure is followed,” he added.
