Connoisseurs of jewellery and watches from across the GCC region will throng the Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre (DECC) for the next five days for the 13th Doha Jewellery and Watches Exhibition (DJWE), which opens on Monday evening. The event opens to the public on Tuesday.
The annual event has evolved into one of the most sought after expos of its kind since its modest beginning in 2004. This time the show is being held at the newly built DECC, which is at the heart of the West Bay business district, making it accessible to more visitors than ever before.
The proximity of the DECC to a large number of hotels is one of the major attractions of the venue, according to industry professionals, who expect good patronage to the exhibition as in previous years.
The uninterrupted hosting of the exhibition, with the active patronage of the ministries and the Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA), has made it a regular event where the top manufacturers and sellers from across the world are present in large numbers.
Almost all leading names in the jewellery industry have their precious creations on display at the event, which is generally regarded as the first major jewellery show of the year. Most jewel houses are believed to start their annual campaign in Doha.
Along with the jewels, considerably large volumes of limited edition, premium and luxury watches are traded at the exhibition. Every year, watch makers and time piece exhibitors come out with appealing creations to win the attention of the region's affluent customers.
The exhibition, from Tuesday to Saturday, is on from noon to 10pm.
