The Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC) has enforced a one-month administrative closure on an electrical appliance outlet in Najma area for displaying and selling counterfeit and substandard cables and paint brushes bearing fake trademarks.
The closure came as part of the inspection campaigns regularly carried out by MEC inspectors to exercise tight control over the local market and the various commercial activities. Such campaigns aim at spotting consumer rights violations such as price manipulations and counterfeited items and substandard products.
MEC stressed that it is determined to protect consumer rights and will intensify its inspection campaigns to crack down on all violations of the consumer protection law.
The ministry said it will refer violators of related laws and ministerial decrees to the competent authorities to take appropriate action to protect the rights of consumers.
