Qatar University College of Law (QU-LAWC) and Qatar International Court and Dispute Resolution Centre (QICDRC) yesterday signed an agreement to establish collaboration activities in the field of legal education, research and training.
The agreement was signed by QU President Dr Hassan Rashid al-Derham and QICDRC CEO Faisal Rashid al-Sahouti, witnessed by officials from the two institutions.
The agreement includes collaboration in advanced vocational legal and judicial training, professional development programmes and subsidiary courses.
It also covers joint conferences, seminars and workshops, as well as collaborative research projects in alternative dispute resolution (ADR).
Both institutions will also co-operate in providing internships and training for LAWC students who will benefit from sponsorships and job opportunities from the Centre after graduation.
Dr al-Derham said the agreement highlights QU’s openness to various governmental institutions and reflects its position as the leading national university in Qatar. “It also underlines LAWC’s commitment to driving forward dialogue and knowledge-sharing between institutions in Qatar in general, in the field of international trade and investment, and dispute resolution in particular,” he noted.
The QU official said this collaboration is aligned with the College’s ongoing efforts towards excellence.
“This will contribute to enhancing our students’ skills and knowledge on the most recent methods applied worldwide in the area of dispute resolution,” he added.
Al-Sahouti echoed the statement of Dr al-Derham saying the agreement highlights QICDRC and QU’s relationship which stresses the importance of raising community awareness on legal education.
LAWC Dean Dr Mohamed bin Abdulaziz al-Khulaifi said: “We are proud to partner with QICDRC on this initiative as we have been co-operating with the Centre over many years on various legal topics and issues.”
“This agreement contributes to enhancing collaboration between both institutions and to advancing academic development at QU,” he added.
