QCS to mark Cancer Day with several programmes

The Qatar Cancer Society (QCS) will organise several activities to observe Qatar Cancer Day on February 25.
QCS chairman Sheikh Dr Khalid bin Jabor al-Thani the society had decided last year to hold Qatar Cancer Day to coincide with the International Cancer Day.
“Qatar Cancer Day will be held annually on the last Friday of February. Since Katara where the event is taking place, is completely occupied this Friday with a number of events, we have advanced it to Thursday. The event aims to create cancer awareness and increase activities related to cancer education and other related areas,” he said.
“Just as cancer affects everyone in different ways, all people have the power to take various actions to reduce the impact that cancer has on individuals, families and communities. This occasion is an opportunity to reflect on what can be done, make a pledge and take action.”
Taking place under the tagline ‘We can. I can.’, the event will explore how everyone, collectively or individually, can do their part to reduce the global burden of cancer.
The event will have a number of attractions for visitors such as a scientific museum, kids area and theatre events among others. The event will be open to school children from 9am to 12 noon and from 4pm to 8pm for the general public.
The scientific museum will have a group of tents in the form of a museum containing display of five types of cancer. The visitors will be taken for a scientific trip and have to identify cancer cells for five types of cancer namely, skin, lung, breast, colon and prostate cancer.
There will also be displays on methods of prevention and treatment that show how everyday health patterns will help people to stay away from cancer.
There will be many sporting events related to physical fitness such as tug of war to test the physical strength and endurance of school students. At the kids area, there will be a play area for children with opportunities for face painting.
In addition there will be cartoon characters and a circus band with music which will move around the venue displaying several messages.
At the concluding ceremony, there will be an entertainment show to raise awareness and some cancer survivors will narrate their story of success.
The event is supported by Ooredoo, Naser Bin Khalid Group, Katara and Katara Hospitality.
