The US embassy in Doha hosted its National Day reception yesterday at the Sheraton. Ambassador Dana Shell Smith welcomed the guests of honour, HE the Minister of Municipality and Environment Mohamed bin Abdullah al-Rumaihi, HE the Minister of Public Health Dr Hanan Mohamed al-Kuwari, Ministry of Foreign Affairs protocol director Ibrahim Fahkroo and Diplomatic Corps dean ambassador Mahmoud.
An array of Qatari officials, diplomats, business, cultural, and education leaders were present. The reception was the final event in a week-long celebration of the US in Qatar, “Discover America Week.”
In her remarks, ambassador Smith highlighted the deep partnerships and friendship between the two nations. “Shared appreciation for and understanding of different cultures connects us in a way that allows us to better conduct all other conversations, whether on diplomacy, trade, or politics. It allows us to understand each other as human beings and on a personal level,” said Smith.
The event also celebrated the milestones of the bilateral relationship reached in recent years. Last year, HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani had his first visit as Emir to the White House while First Lady Michelle Obama delivered the keynote address at the World Innovation Summit for Education in Doha.
