Former Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation (QMMF) president Nasser Khalifa al-Attiyah congratulated the new management of the federation while also wishing them all the best for future endeavours.
Al-Attiyah and former general secretary Mohamed al-Moraikhi visited the QMMF headquarters on Sunday evening and met the new president Abdul Rahman al-Mannai and members of the Board.
“I have worked as QMMF President for 14 years. With God’s blessings and the assistance of my colleagues at QMMF, we, Qatar, managed to reach a prominent position in the world of motorsport. We hosted and organised international events, and our achievements in the sport, both regional and international, can’t be ignored by any one,” al-Attiyah, who is also the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) deputy president and Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) vice president, said.
Talking about the reasons behind his exit from the Qatar federation, al-Attiyah said, “The volume of work and my responsibilities as part of my positions in FIM and FIA, including my presence in various committees under these two international federations, have been great. I have, therefore, tried to resign from the position of QMMF President several times in the past in order to fulfil the tasks of these critical international positions perfectly. These positions require full time focus to achieve the targeted and promising results for the development of motorsport.”
According to decree number 7/2016 issued on February 16, 2016, the members of the QMMF Board will hold the membership for a period of four year.
“We will continue working with each other in order to keep the name of Qatar at the top of the pioneering countries in motorsport,” he said, offering his support to the new management.
“I will always stand beside the new QMMF board members who have been recently appointed. They are some of the finest Qatari youth, we wish them all the best in their new careers. I will always be there to assist and support them whenever they need, and we are also ready to communicate with them on all issues related to the future of Qatari motorsport.”
