QA to celebrate food festival with contest

Qatar Airways, official co-host of the Qatar International Food Festival (QIFF), has launched a special online contest that celebrates two “favourite activities of the world traveller”: immersive experiences and foodie-themed holidays.
Fans of the airline have been encouraged to create their national flag and post it online using #QIFF2016, which will automatically enter them into a random draw for a trip to Doha to experience QIFF 2016.
“The ‘Plate Your Nation’ campaign will feed people’s imaginations, conjuring images of Italian flags made of tomato, mozzarella and basil, or the iconic Japanese red sun on a field of white, made entirely of sushi and rice, the possibilities are endless,” according to a statement.
The rules include creating a representation of a national flag using edible materials and posting a picture on Qatar Airways’ Twitter, Facebook or Instagram channels using #QIFF2016 and #GoingPlacesTogether by March 7.
One winner will be chosen and announced on March 10, who will win a return trip to Doha for two during QIFF, including economy class flights and a three-night stay in Marsa Malaz Kempinski, The Pearl-Doha.
QIFF has been extended to a seven-day festival this year and will be held from March 22 to 28.
Salam al-Shawa, Qatar Airways vice-president (marketing and corporate communications), said: “The worldwide trend of ‘eating and tweeting’ has seen social media flooded with images of global ingredients - inspiring more people to take the trip of a lifetime to experience another culture fully, especially their cuisine.
“What better way to share in this enjoyment than to engage our millions of fans and followers, food lovers and festival goers, in this creative culinary competition, rewarding them with a five-star invitation to join Qatar Airways at what promises to be an extraordinary event.”
The festival, co-organised by Qatar Tourism Authority and Qatar Airways, attracts visitors from different cultures across the world and this year will present a range of international flavours and eateries, to be explored alongside a full programme of live cooking demonstrations and entertainment throughout the seven-day event.
This year, the festival will expand to incorporate three venues: Museum of Islamic Art Park, The Pearl-Qatar and Katara - the Cultural Village.
