The Ministry of Economy and Commerce announced a one-month administrative closure of a spice store in Al-Wakrah over the sale of counterfeit salt of a well-known brand.
The closure comes as part of the various inspection campaigns carried out by the MEC inspector in an effort to monitor the local market and the different commercial activity in the country. The spice store and enforced its closure for a month in line accordance with article no 7 of law number 8 for 2008 on consumer protection.
The law stipulates that suppliers of goods shall clearly display on product labels a clear description of goods and their ingredients and refrain from posting any misleading or false statements.
Meanwhile, the closure is to be published on MEC website as well as two local dailies at the offending store’s own expense in line with article 3 of law no (8).
MEC affirmed that it is determined to protect consumer rights and will intensify its inspection campaigns to crack down on all violations of the consumer protection law. Further, violators of laws and ministerial decrees will be referred to the competent authorities to take appropriate action against perpetrators.
