The Student Activities Department at Qatar University (QU) yesterday launched its ninth annual Cultural Village.
The event themed “Old is Gold” will take place on February 28 to March 3 and will feature 29 booths. It will also include exhibitions and cultural activities such as shows featuring traditional and folkloric customs, music, and plays.
Dr Khalid al-Khanji, QU vice president for student affairs, said: “Cultures from around the world meet under the umbrella of QU. This event reflects the true meaning of humanity and unity, as we aim to engage our students in carrying out a message of peace.”
He added: “The event promotes the spirit of friendship among students from different nations and cultures at a time when the world around us is being affected by conflict and
instability.”
Abdullah al-Yafei, associate vice president for student life and services, said: “Enriching the student community is one of our aims at QU. This annual event reflects the future vision of the university in its aim to graduate students who appreciate and extend the message of peace and humanity to the world.”
Salwa Zainal, section head of events and campus activities, noted that the theme of this year’s event aims to connect students with their past. “This brings students from different countries together and teaches them lifelong skills such as volunteerism, teamwork, organisation, interpersonal relations and problem-solving,” she said.
