Umm Qarn’s Majeed, staying true to his top rating in the event, won the Qatar Local Purebred Arabian Trophy, a conditions race for four-year-olds and above, on the turf of the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club here yesterday.

Trained by Alban de Mieulle, who had a winner in Amid earlier in the day, Majeed tracked leaders Intizaa and Tajarub early on.
As the home stretch approached, jockey Gaetan Faucon had his ride move ahead on the outside and into the lead. Majeed had Derby winner Ain Jalout and HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Khalifa al-Thani-owned Reda in pursuit in the final furlong but held on to win comfortably.
Julian Smart-schooled Reda, the second lowest rated horse in the field (88), edged out Ain Jalout in the final few metres to finish second.

The Class 3 Thoroughbred Handicap event, a 1200m sprint for horses rated 75 to 95, saw a thrilling finish with Hamad bin Abdulrahman bin Hamad al-Attiyah-owned Sejalaat edging out Al Shaqab Racing’s Thahab for a victory, with Sheikha Ayisha bint Mishal bin Hamad al-Thani-owned Under The Radar finishing a close third.
The five-year-old gelding’s win was champion trainer Jassim Ghazali’s only victory of the day. Sejalaat had last tasted success on dirt, winning a handicap event in March 2015.
Thahab, who had two-time HH The Emir’s Trophy winner Frankie Dettori at the helm, had two wins on dirt out of three runs this season coming into yesterday’s 1200m sprint.
Zuhair Mohsen-trained Dark Light bounced back from a 10th-place finish in a six-furlong Handicap race on dirt earlier this month with a win in the Class 5 Thoroughbred Handicap seven furlong run for horses rated 55-75.
Adrie de Vries rode Dark Light to a half a length victory over Sheikh Faisal bin Hamad bin Jassim al-Thani-owned Fadak, while Stevie’s Wonder completed the top three.
Al Jeryan Stud’s AJS Fath Elkheir returned to winning ways after almost two years, picking up victory in the Purebred Arabian Cup, a conditions race for winners aged four years or more.
Jockey Gerald Avranche had the Amer progeny finish a length and a half ahead of Al Shahania Stud’s Zahwah, who had finished third in the Qatar Oaks in her previous outing.
Al Jasra Stud’s Mekhbatt rounded up the top three.
Munira Eyes, running for Ibrahim al-Malki, shed his maiden status on his fourth outing in Doha, winning the Class 5 Thoroughbred Maiden Plate event. The Abdulatif Hussain al-Emadi-owned colt, with Alan Munro at the helm, finished two lengths ahead of Charme Secret in the 1200m sprint.

Running for De Mieulle, Amid was ridden to victory in the seven-furlong event by Jean Baptiste Hamel, while Hagwa had champion jockey Harry Bentley at the helm.
In the first race of the day, Austrian jockey Hana Jurankova amassed 20 points in the Longines World Fegentri Championship for Lady Riders after she rode Mohamed Jassim Ghazali-trained Saakhen, in the colours of Sheikha Rowdha bint Mishal bin Hamad al-Thani, to victory.
Al Jasra Stud’s Northern Water, with Celina Weber astride, finished three-quarters of a length behind Saakhen, but edged out Mohsen’s colt Crisscrossed, ridden by Virginia Drexler, to third.
Fegentri’s defending champion Josephine Chini of Sweden rode Deborah Mountain’s charge Sunley Pride to fourth position.
