HE the Minister of Transport and Communications Jassim Seif Ahmed al-Sulaiti yesterday opened the Gulf Marine Centre in Al Wakrah in the presence of HE Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) Chairman Abdulla Nasser Turki al-Subaey and a number of officials from the transport and communications sector.
Speaking during the occasion, al-Subaey extended his gratitude to the minister for patronising the ceremonies and his constant support for CAA.
He said that the goal of establishing the Gulf Marine Centre is to offer the services of maritime bulletins and alerts in the region including Arab Gulf, Strait of Hormuz, Arabian Sea and Gulf of Aden.
Al-Subaey added that the centre is one of a few across the world and the first in the Arab region, noting that CAA contacted the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) and the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) and took a series of measures to accredit the centre.
For his part, HE al-Sulaiti said the centre is a significant addition to maritime navigation in Qatar, extending his thanks to those in charge of it.
He added that the centre serves the Gulf region and the Indian Ocean, stressing that opening it and having it accredited by WMO and IMO is an official recognition of Qatar’s regional status.
