754 complaints registered at Indian embassy in 2016

In the two months so far this year, the Indian Embassy has received 754 complaints from its nationals, its monthly community house was informed. In 2015, the mission had received a total of 4,132 complaints.
In the community house, attended among others by ambassador Sanjiv Arora and deputy chief of mission R K Singh, it was told that 125 Indians were serving sentence in different cases in the Central Prison while 175 were waiting to leave the country at the Deportation Centre.
Teams from the embassy visited both places recently to inquire about the welfare of the Indian nationals, it was told.
So far this month, 29 Indian nationals died in the country. Both in 2015 and 2014, there were 279 deaths each in the country's Indian community.
On requests from Qatari authorities for travel documents for Indian nationals in the Deportation Centre, the embassy has issued 24 emergency certificates (ECs) so far this month.
The embassy also issued 23 air tickets to the Indian nationals in distress for their return to India in February.
The Indian Community Benevolent Forum (ICBF) continues to help the expatriate workers through various welfare measures, including provision of air tickets, financial assistance and medical help. The assistance given by ICBF to Indian nationals during February included eight air tickets for workers.
Both ambassador Arora and deputy chief of mission R K Singh, along with other officials met all the complainants, discussed their problems and assured them of what the embassy could do to actively follow up their cases with the authorities concerned in the local government.
ICBF president Arvind Patil also was present.
