Djibouti president encourages Qatari investments

President of Djibouti Ismail Omar Guelleh yesterday urged Qatari businessmen to seize the investment opportunities available in his country.  Guelleh said Djibouti was the only waterway to Ethiopia and it serves 18 other African countries with a population of 400mn people.  “Moreover, Djibouti is currently investing in massive development infrastructure projects such as marine ports, airports, railway stations that will link the country to Ethiopia. Another key advantage of Djibouti is that currency is pegged to the US Dollar. This facilitates the entry and exit of currency. “Djibouti is located in a strategic area in the horn of Africa. This makes it the meeting point for all continents,” the president said.  For his part, Qatar Chamber (QC) vice-chairman Mohammed bin Ahmed bin Towar al-Kuwari said that the State of Qatar managed to improve its infrastructure and occupy a high rank in the world by adopting balanced policies. He noted that the State of Qatar is encouraging its private sector to invest abroad as part of Qatar National Vision 2030.  The vice-chairman of QC praised the State of Qatar and Djibouti for working on enhancing ties. He added that it was important for Qatari businessmen to benefit from the strong relations of the two countries. Furthermore, he said that the Chamber supports Qatari private sector efforts of seeking investment opportunities in Djibouti in different fields.  He noted that investment in energy in the African country could produce 100MW through solar energy, wind energy or gas. Djibouti is offering plenty of tax breaks, a solid banking system and is adding four new ports that boost trade in the African continent.
