A group of young Qatari film enthusiasts attended a workshop on filmmaking, hosted by visiting American filmmaker Alix Madigan at the Girls Creativity Centre.
Madigan was in Doha on an invitation from the US embassy as part of its Discover America Week celebrations.
At the workshop, the US film personality held different sessions covering six short films produced by the Qatari girls. The sessions were held as an initiative of Qatar Cinema and Film Distribution Company general manager Abdulrahman Najdi.
The interactions featured discussions on the quality of the films produced by the local youngsters and the challenges faced by each producer in finalising their projects while working in the film field. The workshop, “Voices of Women”, was held in partnership with the Middle East Partnership Initiative.
Expressing her desire to help young Qatari filmmakers, Madigan told them the necessity of concentrating on such areas as time and budget. She also highlighted the necessity of mastering better academic knowledge for becoming good moviemakers and the importance of better life experience in making films.
Madigan has produced the popular Winter’s Bone, featuring well-known actress Jennifer Lawrence and John Hawkes. The film won top honours at the annual Sundance Film Festival in Utah (2010) .
