Some 49 maths, science and IT male and female educators from selected independent and international schools have been trained in programming basics and skills at two separate workshops organised by The Ministry of Transport and Communications’ Digital Society Development Department, in collaboration with Oracle Academy.
Held at the Community College of Qatar within a pilot project that will be applied at a larger scale after testing the results, the workshops introduced educators to basics and skills of two popular programming software; Alice and Greenfoot.
The workshops are part of the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to reach out to all segments of society in Qatar to sharpen their digital skills.

Traffic fine discount valid until April 7
The Ministry of Interior (MoI) has announced that the decision to slash by 50% the fines for traffic violations registered before December 31, 2015 is valid until April 7.
This was announced by the MoI on its official Twitter account. “The discount is applicable to all types of violations such as radar fines and fines charged by traffic police. Fines are payable through the web portal of the Ministry, Metrash2 App., Self Service Kiosks and all other service centres.”
The Ministry had earlier pointed out that decision is aimed at encouraging motorists to abide by the traffic rules and regulations for their own safety. Accordingly, they will be able to pay off their fines and henceforth be more careful to abide by the rules and regulations to avoid any adverse consequences.
Kia Soul recalled
The Ministry of Economy and Commerce, in collaboration with Al-Attiya Motors and Trading Company, has announced the recall of Kia Soul models of 2014 and 2015 as noise may occur while turning the steering wheel.
The MEC said the recall campaign comes within the framework of its ongoing efforts to protect consumers and ensure that car dealers follow up on vehicles’ defects and repair them.
The MEC will co-ordinate with the dealer to follow up on the maintenance and repair works and communicate with customers to ensure that the necessary repairs are carried out.
