The Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) will tackle head on the crucial challenges it will face in the ongoing preparations for the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar. This was the message delivered by SC secretary general Hassan al-Thawadi yesterday at the inaugural session of the one-day seminar entitled ‘Personal Leadership in a Rapidly Changing World’ organised by the Doha-based Middle East Leadership Academy (MELA).
Al-Thawadi highlighted that this approach would allow Qatar to leave behind economic, human and social legacies that the country and the rest of the world can be proud of.
The seminar is a curtain raiser to a 10-day leadership workshop, ‘Leadership Masterclass’ for 40 accomplished Middle East corporate executives and government officials beginning today.
“The SC has a unique mandate and is working hand in hand with public and private stakeholders to ensure the projects are delivered on time and to the highest standards. These initiatives will transform Qatar and prepare the nation for decades to come,” he said.
He added: “The coordination between our stakeholders will ensure that our infrastructure projects will leave behind a significant economic legacy for Qatar. We have always been committed in our belief that the 2022 FIFA World Cup must also serve as a catalyst for human and social legacies.”
Al-Thawadi also emphasised that the “2022 FIFA World Cup is about change”. He elaborated: “We are living in a changing world and are seeking to bring about transformation of our country through hosting the World Cup. If one looks deep one can see commonality in the change happening all around and this is an opportunity for us as we prepare for a global event. We will always aim high during these times of change.”
HE Sultan bin Rashid al-Khater, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Economy and Commerce, and Shell Qatar vice president Michiel Kool were the other panellists in the introductory session of the seminar.
“Encouraging dialogue, debate and knowledge transfer among the best minds in Qatar and the region is vital for leadership development,” said al-Khater. “The seminar leverages our combined expertise for the overall benefit of our societies and economies.”
