Wakrah striker Sasha, Rayyan coach Fossati win February honours

Al Wakrah striker Sasha has been announced as the QSL player of the month for February. The player is set to receive the award at Al Wakrah’s training ground.
The Argentine hit-man has been on fine scoring form this month, scoring crucial goals against Al Sadd and Al Sailiya, helping his side into ninth place in the QSL rankings. His record of six goals in five QSL games has helped him pick up the coveted trophy.
Statistics from Prozone, The QSL’s statistical partner show how Sasha dominated the month of February. Firstly the striker sprinted more than many of his peers, on average he clocked up 438m sprinting per match, significantly higher than the QSL average of 330m for a striker.
Whilst the striker also kept up a high intensity running level over the course of his games, Sasha clocked an average 1316m of high intensity running per game. This dwarfs the 1123m of high intensity work completed by the average QSL striker in February.
Sasha’s game is all about poaching goals in the box, and this was typified in his sides 3-1 victory over Al Sadd in February. With Sasha capitalizing on a Sadd defensive error to calmly score the third goal past Sadd stopper Saad al-Sheeb.
It’s unsurprising then that the Al Wakrah man excelled at shots in the penalty area. In February he averaged an impressive four shots in the box per game, significantly higher than the QSL average of 1.97. Importantly most of his efforts found their target, with 2.6 shots hitting their mark again much higher than the average tally of 0.99 for the QSL strikers.
Importantly this lead to an average of 1.2 goals per game inside the box in the month of February, proving that his poachers instinct has helped Al Wakrah pull away from the QSL relegation zone.

Record for Fossati
Al Rayyan’s head coach Jorge Fossati has been awarded the coach of the month award for February. This is the first time that a QSL head coach has picked up the award four times in a season.
The Lions have been dominant in February winning all of their games, impressive victories over champions Lekhwiya and Al Arabi mean that Al Rayyan are now on the cusp of lifting their first falcon shield since the 1994/1995 season.
In front of goal, Al Rayyan scored 12 times in five games; creating an average of 9.2 chances per match. However it is defensively where the Lions have excelled conceding 0 goals during February.
Al Rayyan now only need one more point to confirm their status as QSL champions, and will face Al Wakrah in round 21 on Saturday evening.
