Power supply to all parts of The Pearl-Qatar was restored yesterday morning after an outage of around 24 hours. Road works on Al Shamal Road, under the Al Kharaitiyat bridge, had damaged a cable in the main network feeding the Island, triggering the outage at 6.57am on Tuesday.
Once the matter was reported, Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (Kahramaa) rushed standby teams to the site to repair the affected portion.
In a press statement yesterday, United Development Company (UDC) - master developer of The Pearl-Qatar – said: “Supply was restored to almost all areas and precincts of The Pearl by 8am on Wednesday morning. Kahramaa worked round the clock to ensure that their engineers made significant overnight progress and, in turn, resulted in power supplies being retransmitted directly to The Pearl-Qatar.”
On its part, Kahramaa tweeted yesterday morning that power had been restored to all areas affected by the outage at The Pearl-Qatar, and thanked all concerned for their patience.
Following the power outage on Tuesday morning, UDC provided a number of power generators, while Kahramaa gave several electric generators to aid in channelling emergency power to vital areas on the Island, such as the sewage plant and water pumping stations.
“We would like to thank all the residents of The Pearl-Qatar for their patience, understanding and co-operation regarding any inconvenience they may have faced due to the power outage. The root cause of the incident has been identified and consequently rectified. Additionally, stringent measures are being put in place to prevent such incidents from happening in the future, although it was beyond UDC’s control,” a UDC spokesperson said.
UDC also expressed gratitude to all the hotels and residency facilities that provided accommodation and services to host The Pearl-Qatar’s residents.
Both UDC and Kahramaa gave regular updates about the repair work on their social media platforms.
Meanwhile, residents expressed relief after power was restored and, though social media, thanked those who worked round the clock to fix the problem.
