Silfverberg scores winner, Ducks edge past Canadiens

Jakob Silfverberg scored the only shootout goal to give the Anaheim Ducks a 3-2 win over the Montreal Canadiens on Wednesday night at the National Hockey League, in front of 15,273 at the Honda Center.
The Ducks (35-19-8) used their ninth consecutive victory to move into a first-place tie in the Pacific Division with the Los Angeles Kings. Corey Perry and Jamie McGinn scored in regulation for Anaheim while John Gibson stopped 25 shots.
 
Capitals 3, Maple Leafs 2
Defenseman Matt Niskanen’s power-play goal at 9:31 of the third period lifted the Washington Capitals to a 3-2 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday.
The matchup between the teams with the most and least points in the NHL was tied when Toronto right winger Nikita Soshnikov was called for boarding with 9:20 left. Seconds later, Niskanen took a pass from center Nicklas Backstrom and fired a wrist shot from the point that got through a screen in front and past goaltender Jonathan Bernier.
 
Blackhawks 5, Red Wings 2
Artemi Panarin had two goals to lead the Chicago Blackhawks to a 5-2 win against the Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday night at Joe Louis Arena.
Brent Seabrook a goal and three assists, Patrick Kane a goal and two assists and Andrew Ladd also scored for Chicago while Corey Crawford made 31 saves. Brad Richards and Gustav Nyquist scored for Detroit while Petr Mrazek made saves.
