Winners of the Qatar University (QU) eighth Robotics Competition for Boys were announced at the closing ceremony recently.  
Abu Baker Al Siddiq Preparatory School for Boys was named the first Qatar champion, while Khalid bin Ahmed Preparatory School for Boys was the second Qatar champion.
Winners in the Robot Design Award category were the Little Engineer Team (first), Hamza bin Abdulmutalib Preparatory School for Boys (second) and Mesaieed International School (third).
The Project Award category winners were Ali bin Jassem Secondary School for Boys (first), Khalifa Secondary School for Boys (second) and Al Razi Preparatory School for Boys (third).
Ibn Khaldoon Preparatory School for Boys won the first place in the About Core Values Award category, followed by Omar bin Al Khattab Preparatory School for Boys (second) and Doha Preparatory School for Boys (third).
The competition, organised annually by QU College of Engineering (CENG) and Qatar’s Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MEHE), drew the participation of more than 200 students from 26 national and international schools, and included over 30 projects.
Attending the ceremony were CENG dean Dr Rashid Alammari, MEHE Schools Office director Khalifa al-Derham, CENG associate dean for development and industrial relations Dr Saud Ghani, CENG computer science and engineering department head Dr Summaya al-Maadeed, and MEHE National Robots Committee head Mariam al-Awadi, as well as CENG faculty and students.
In his remarks, Dr Alammari said: “This national competition underlines QU’s mission to engage high-school students in innovative projects, reinforce their skills in teamwork and leadership, and motivate and encourage their interest in pursuing studies in science and engineering.”
Al-Derham said, “The ministry is honoured to partner with Qatar University in running this competition with the aim to raise the students’ knowledge of robotics. I am pleased to see the huge number of participants this year.”
