The Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC) has issued a translation of the consumer protection law in sign language for the benefit of people with hearing disability.
The launch comes as part of the MEC's awareness activities at Souq Waqif to mark the 11th Gulf Consumer Protection Week under the theme "One Gulf, One Consumer", which is set to conclude on Monday.
The ministry has launched the sign language translation of the law in co-operation with Qatar Society for Rehabilitation of Special Needs.
The MEC's activities at Souq Waqif have seen a considerable turnout of visitors, who are keen to benefit from the various awareness efforts that instruct them on how to protect their consumer rights, select high-quality products and avoid fraud and counterfeited brands, according to a statement.
School students are paid special attention in order to instruct them on proper shopping practices.
The activities include a simulation of a shop where children get introduced to proper shopping practices and how to compare prices, check the validity of products and stay within their budget. The same activity also teaches them how to organise and store purchases at home.
Other activities conducted by the ministry during the week include a quiz on its services and how to use them. Besides, two automobile companies are providing awareness lectures to the public on issues such as how a car works, spare parts, after-sale service and how to conduct vehicle maintenance in the right way.
Visitors have lauded the initiative, stressing that the areas covered in the activities play a key role in their daily lives.
