People living along the renovated Bin Sanad Al Abad Street in Najma have requested the municipal authorities to set up speedbreakers in at least two places on the nearly half-kilometre stretch.
This is because traffic has increased along the road and many vehicles are seen hurtling down at alarming speeds along the stretch, say the residents.
The road houses a number of residential units on its eastern side. Their inhabitants point out that since the renovation of the road, which runs parallel to C-Ring Road between Navigation Plaza and the Gulf Cinema complex, there has been a significant rise in traffic through the stretch in both directions.
The road provides easy access for vehicles coming from Airport Street and Corniche to reach Najma and Mansoura.
Some of the residents living in apartments along the road, as well as those employed in offices there, say many vehicles passing through the stretch can be seen travelling at high speeds.
“The speeding vehicles are a scary sight and something that has left many of us worried,” said a resident, stressing the need for speedbreakers to prevent accidents along the road.
A visit to the neighbourhood found even trailers and buses going to worksites in the area speeding along the road.
Over the last few years, a number of new office complexes have come up along the road. While the front portions of these buildings face C-Ring Road, the basement parking entry/exit points are on the Bin Sanad Al Abad Street side. Cars emerging from the basement parking, which have limited space to manoeuvre, also run the risk of ramming into vehicles speeding along the road, say residents.
A medical centre has started functioning along the route and a number of pedestrians also use the road to access offices and other buildings there.
Besides, vehicles coming to a fuel station in the neighbourhood also use the stretch to reach the place from both sides, it is understood.
