Amlak, Tarsheed launch ‘Green Hospitality Award’

As part of its steadfast mission to bring to life the Qatar National Vision 2030’s conservation goals, Amlak and Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (Kahramaa) represented in Tarsheed, have announced the launch of “Green Hospitality Award,” designed to shed light on the hospitality industry’s sustainability leaders.
A first-ever for Qatar, the “Green Hospitality Award,” which will be held on an annual basis, aims to recognise existing and operational hotels in the country that have successfully integrated green operation – spanning the areas of energy efficiency, resource conservation, and air quality – into their operations.
The award ceremony, set to take place on April 21 at Qatar National Convention Centre during the “Tarsheed 4th Annual Celebration,” marks yet another pivotal chapter in Amlak’s enduring partnership with Tarsheed, the National Programme for Conservation and Energy Efficiency.
“Since its founding, Amlak has placed sustainability – both economic and environmental – at the core of its business ethos,” said Amlak CEO Abdul Aziz al-Emadi.
“Our collaboration with Tarsheed is based on a shared vision to spearhead green operations, innovations, and clean technologies in the hospitality and tourism sector.
We are proud to have launched the ‘Green Hospitality Award’, an initiative that will surely help solidify Qatar’s unwavering stance when it comes to sustaining a powerful environmental legacy for future generations. After all, this forms the very core of Qatar’s multi-phased National Vision 2030.”
Kahramaa Conservation & Energy Efficiency manager Abdul Aziz al-Hammadi said: “Our partnership with Amlak has been rooted in common values and a joint commitment to drive environmental action and shape Qatar’s sustainable future, including both Kahramaa and Tarsheed’s own goals towards saving national resources and achieving environmental sustainability.
“In line with this, we are happy to be inaugurating the ‘Green Hospitality Award’. We hope that the initiative will help trigger a ripple effect of change across Qatar’s fast-growing hospitality and tourism sector and engrain the concept of sustainable operations into all aspects of the industry thus improving environmental performance.”
The “Green Hospitality Award” selection process will see a panel of specialised experts evaluate each competing hotel operations and environmentally-friendly initiatives, based on specific criteria that include HVAC systems, lighting, plumbing fixtures, landscape, operation and maintenance practices, building automation, sustainability measures, specific energy/water consumption as part of the Tarsheed Conserving Building Competition but specialised for hotel sectors under “Green Hospitality Award.”
From there, one winning entry will be nominated from the hospitality sector and be granted both an award and certificate for being a pioneer in hospitality best environmental practices.
Eligible hotels must submit their nominations for the award online via http://www.km.com.qa/Tarsheed/Pages/Sustainable.aspx by March 25.
