The French embassy, under the patronage of Qatar Business Incubation Centre (QBIC), is launching the first edition of a programme that aims to create bonding between Qatari and French women and encourage Qatari women to develop professional initiatives in all sectors of activity.
The initiative comes on the occasion of International Women’s Day and to celebrate Qatari women, according to a statement.
“In September this year, the French embassy will launch a call for projects. It will be open to all Qatari women, active or students,” the statement notes. A committee of French and Qatari women based in Doha will revise and select three winners, who will be announced on March 8, 2017. The laureates will partner with a French woman and, together, they will develop the project.
The programme will be announced by French ambassador Eric Chevallier tomorrow, on the occasion of Women’s Day, in the presence of OBIC chief executive officer Aysha al-Mudahka al-Mudahka.
“In France and in Qatar, we have remarkable women in all fields. I am honoured to contribute to creating strong and lasting bonds between Qatari and French women. Our people have a lot to learn from each other,” said
Chevallier.
Al-Mudahka noted, “I am truly honoured to be part of this noble initiative, and to represent the Qatari women who have made great achievements thanks to the support and vision of our government and leaders.
“We, at QBIC, support female entrepreneurs and strive to provide them with a comfortable environment to help them realise their dream of having their own startup businesses. At QBIC, we’ve already incubated some very successful startups, founded and run by Qatari women. Some of these businesses are S’ishira, Namoona, HZ and Faroula.
“The French embassy has been a great supporter of women in Qatar, and this programme represents only one of the many milestone initiatives they regularly provide for the women of our community. We look forward to being a part of this journey.”
