Canadian re-certification for chemistry programme

The Department of Chemistry and Earth Sciences at Qatar University’s College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) recently celebrated the renewal of its 2009 Chemistry programme accreditation from The Canadian Society for Chemistry for another five years.
The opening of the Chemistry programme re-accreditation ceremony was attended by QU president Dr Hassan Rashid al-Derham, Canadian Ambassador Adrian Norfolk, QU vice president and chief academic officer Dr Mazen Hasna, vice presidents Dr Homaid al-Madfa (administrative affairs),  Dr Khalid Khonji (student affairs), CAS dean Dr Eiman Mustafawi, Department of Chemistry and Earth Sciences head Prof Hala Sultan S al- Easa, Canadian Society of Chemistry immediate past president Prof Youla Tsantrizos, CAS associate deans Dr Khalifa Hazaa (Outreach and Engagement), Dr Steven Wright (Planning and Quality Assurance), Dr Hassan A Aziz (Academic affairs) and Prof Mohamed Ahmedna (Research and Graduate studies).
Dr Mustafawi recalled that the CAS is home to a growing list of accredited programmes that includes the undergraduate Statistics Programme by the UK-based Royal Statistical Society; the undergraduate and graduate programmes in Environmental Sciences by the UK-based Committee of Heads of Environmental Sciences; and the undergraduate Mass Communication Programme by the US-based Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communication.
Prof al-Easa pointed out that the Chemistry programme, now a part of the Department of Chemistry and Earth Sciences, was one of the founding programmes of Qatar University, and many of its graduates now occupy important positions in Qatari society.
