Alex Galchenyuk scored his second goal of the game 1:59 into overtime to give the Montreal Canadiens a 4-3 win over the Dallas Stars on Tuesday night at the Bell Centre. Max Pacioretty, Alex Galchenyuk and Philip Danault scored in regulation for Montreal (31-30-6). Cody Eakin, Jason Spezza and Ales Hemsky replied for the Stars (40-20-8).
 
Rangers 4, Sabres 2
Mats Zuccarello had a goal and two assists to lead the New York Rangers to a 4-2 win over the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday night.
Derick Brassard, Jesper Fest and J.T. Miller also scored for the Rangers (39-22-6) and Antti Raanta made 34 saves.
 
Blue Jackets 5, Red Wings 3
The Columbus Blue Jackets’ season has been reduced to playing out the string with no chance of reaching the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
But if the Blue Jackets can make life difficult for one of their former Central Division rivals, that might make it easier.
The Blue Jackets scored two 5-on-3 goals and had four different scorers in a 5-3 win over the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday at Nationwide Arena.
 
Hurricanes 4, Senators 3 (shootout)
Defenseman Jaccob Slavin scored in the fourth round of a shootout to give the Carolina Hurricanes an unlikely 4-3 victory against the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday night at PNC Arena.
Carolina left winger Jeff Skinner’s goal with less than one second remaining in regulation tied the score at 3-3. It came after the Hurricanes skated with an empty net for nearly two minutes to end the third period.
 
Islanders 2, Penguins 1
Anders Lee was credited with the game-winning goal with 11:05 remaining in the third period Tuesday night as the surging New York Islanders edged the Pittsburgh Penguins 2-1 at Barclays Center.
The Islanders, fresh off the most successful seven-game road trip in franchise history (6-1-0), won four straight and 11 of 14 overall to improve to 37-20-7. With Tuesday’s victory, they remained three points behind the second-place New York Rangers in the Metropolitan Division and moved five points ahead of the fourth-place Penguins.
 
Predators 4, Jets 2
The Nashville Predators lived up to their nickname in Winnipeg Tuesday night, breaking the backs of the Jets in just 11 seconds.
Trailing 1-0 as the first period was winding down, Viktor Arvidsson found Craig Smith for a goal-mouth tap-in with just 40 seconds left. Before the PA announcer had time to announce the goal, however, Colton Sissons gave the Predators a lead they wouldn’t relinquish off the ensuing face-off when he banked a shot off Ben Chiarot’s skate behind Ondrej Pavelec, paving the way for Nashville’s 4-2 victory.
 
Sharks 3, Oilers 0
The San Jose Sharks, continuing to flex their muscle in the second half of the season, dumped the resurgent Edmonton Oilers 3-0 Tuesday at Rexall Place.
James Reimer had the 31-save shutout in his second game for the Sharks. He was recently acquired in a trade with the Toronto Maple Leafs. Logan Couture scored twice for the visitors.

Bruins 1, Lightning 0 (overtime)
Brad Marchand scored his 34th goal of the season nine seconds into the overtime period to give the Boston Bruins a 1-0 win against the Tampa Bay Lightning at Amalie Arena on Tuesday.  Boston (38-23-7) moved into a tie with the Lightning for first place in the Atlantic Division.
Bruins netminder Jonas Gustavsson had 42 saves in the win.
