Aaron Ekblad got the go-ahead goal and Jaromir Jagr scored twice as the Florida Panthers beat the Ottawa Senators 6-2 and stopped a three-game losing streak.
Jagr, who scored Florida’s first and fifth goals, became the fifth player in history to record at least 50 points in 20 NHL seasons. The others on the list are Gordie Howe, Mark Messier, Ray Bourque and Ron Francis.
The result lifted Florida (37-21-9) into a tie for second place in the Atlantic Division with the Tampa Bay Lightning, each with 83 points. The Boston Bruins (84 points) lead the Atlantic.
Hurricanes 3, Bruins 2 (overtime)
The Carolina Hurricanes, continuing a late run at a playoff spot, pulled out a major road victory with a 3-2 overtime result over the Boston Bruins.
Rookie Phil Di Giuseppe slid home a rebound to seal the two points for the Hurricanes as they opened a five-game road trip and improved to 31-26-11.
Loui Eriksson and David Pastrnak scored for the (38-23-8) Bruins, who played their fourth consecutive overtime game.
Red Wings 3, Jets 2
Justin Abdelkader’s goal with less than five minutes left gave the Detroit Red Wings a 3-2 come-from-behind win against the Winnipeg Jets.
Dylan Larkin and defenseman Jonathan Ericsson also scored for Detroit, which trailed 2-0 in the second period.
Oilers 2, Wild 1
A Connor McDavid third period goal helped the Edmonton Oilers to a 2-1 win over Minnesota that dealt a blow to the playoff hopes of the Wild.
It was the fifth win in seven games for the (27-36-7) Oilers.
The Wild (31-27-10) lost their second straight game and remain two points behind the Colorado Avalanche in the quest for the final playoff spot in the West.
Canadiens 3, Sabres 2
Montreal All-Star defenseman P.K. Subban was taken to hospital after incurring a neck injury in the Canadiens’ 3-2 win over the Buffalo Sabres.
Subban fell awkwardly in a battle with Marcus Foligno in the corner and a subsequent collision with teammate Alexei Emelin on the same play.
The Canadiens said Subban was alert and moving his extremities normally.
Devils 3, Sharks 0
Keith Kinkaid stopped 30 shots for his second career shutout as New jersey topped San Jose.
Travis Zajac scored twice and Devante Smith-Pelly once for the Devils.
The Sharks, who possess the best road record in the league, dropped to a pedestrian 12-15-3 as hosts.
