GCC Foreign Ministers expressed their appreciation for the State of Qatar for its commitment to the success of joint Arab action, expressing keenness that the new secretary-general of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, will uphold the interests of all Arab countries, individually and collectively, and enhance the Arab interests and national security.
In a statement released after a meeting of the extraordinary session of the Arab League Council held in Cairo to select the new secretary-general of the Arab League succeeding Dr Nabil Elaraby, whose term ends on June 30 next year, the GCC Foreign Ministers stressed support for the State of Qatar, praising the importance of the role it played to achieve the required consensus and support the Arab League.
They also hailed Qatar’s role and efforts being exerted in this regard, expressing satisfaction over the session’s outcomes.
