A former Nepalese minister was yesterday arrested after the police found bullets in his bank locker, authorities said.
Lharkyal Lama, who had served as a state minister in the past, was arrested after 14 bullets for a pistol were found in his bank locker in a bank in Kathmandu, police said.
Owning bullets or gun is illegal in Nepal.
Police said the discovery was made when they were investigating his account after the Commission for the Investigation of the Abuse of Authority pressed corruption charges against him.
Lama became a minister of state after he was elected through the Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist Leninists (UML) in the 2008 constituent assembly election. But he was forced to step down after he was drawn into controversy for possessing an Indian passport, as well as Tibetan refugee documents.
In the 2013 constituent assembly election, he was elected as a lawmaker from the Unified Maoist party. Police said he was being remanded in custody for five days.
