Aspetar, a leading orthopaedic and sports medicine hospital in the region and member of Aspire Zone Foundation (AZF), opened its West Expansion development, a five-storied state-of-the-art building, on Sunday.
Mohamed Khalifa al-Suwaidi, acting CEO of AZF, Dr Mohamed Ghaith al-Kuwari, acting director general, Aspetar along with other senior officials of AZF opened the facility by cutting a ribbon in the presence of AZF officials and invitees.
The 10,080sqm expansion includes a number facilities and services which are unique in the country and the region. The expansion will enable athletes to achieve the highest levels of performance through its advanced services.

The new facilities and services include the first sports surgery training centre in the Middle East, male and female rehabilitation centres, integrated research department and 'Exercise is Medicine' clinics.
Most of these services are being introduced in the region for the first time.
Al-Suwaidi described the opening as part of Aspire Zone Foundation’s overall strategy to expand its facilities and services in line with its vision to become the reference in sports excellence worldwide.
"Last year we inaugurated the North Expansion of the hospital," he recalled.
Dr al-Kuwari explained that the West Expansion is a continuation of the ongoing modernisation and development undertaken by Aspetar to stay in line with the latest developments in sports medicine.
"This expansion will increase the capacity of the hospital’s rehabilitation and physiotherapy services, the services offered by its exercise medicine and physiology clinics, as well as improve the performance of athletes.”
The West Expansion, which follows the opening of the North Expansion in 2015, will provide exceptional services.
The centre is staffed by highly skilled and trained sports medicine experts who will deliver state-of-the-art evidence-based assessment and treatment based on the latest in sport medicine science.
