Temporary closure of southbound lane on Jassim Bin Hamad Street

The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has announced that the southbound lane on Jassim Bin Hamad Street will be temporarily closed from the Jassim Bin Hamad roundabout to Al Rayyan Road.
The closure, which stretches around 380m, will start on Friday and continue for six months. It is being implemented in co-ordination with the Traffic Department, Ashghal has said in a statement.
“The closure is needed to complete the proposed tunnel that will eventually pass under Al Rayyan Road, connecting Al Rayyan Road and Jassim Bin Hamad Street. The tunnel will reduce traffic congestion on Al Rayyan Road and Jassim Bin Hamad Street and provide easy access to residential and commercial areas in Al Masilah and New Al Hitmi,” the statement said.
Vehicles coming from the Olympic roundabout (known as Sports roundabout) and heading west will be able to access Jasim Bin Hamad Street by taking the exit from Al Rayyan Road to Al Yamama Street, turning left onto Al Rashid Street and right again onto Jassim Bin Hamad Street.
Commuters who wish to access Al Rayyan Road via Jassim Bin Hamad Street will have to make a U-turn to access Al Rashid Street and then make a right turn onto Al Yamama Street (see map).
Ashghal has urged all commuters to abide by speed limits to help ensure their safety and follow the new signage displayed in the area to guide them.
