The General Directorate of Traffic, under the auspices of the director-general of Public Security, Staff Major General Saad bin Jassim al-Khulaifi, has held its annual ceremony to honour veteran motorists.
The event was held in Doha as part of the 32nd Gulf Traffic Week.
Speaking on the occasion, Staff Major General al-Khulaifi said the traffic authorities were delighted to honour the older generation of motorists.
He said that honouring these motorists would serve as an inspiration for the new generation to be committed to traffic rules and regulations.
Brigadier Mohamed Saad al-Kharji, director of the Traffic Department, urged the youth to emulate these motorists who have driven on the country’s roads for more than 50 years without any accidents.
Brigadier al-Kharji also said that traffic awareness activities have helped reduce accidents in the country. The number of accidents registered in January this year was 80% less than in January 2015, it was observed.
