Texas A&M University at Qatar (Tamuq) and the Qatar Shell Research and Technology Centre (QSRTC) have signed a two-year agreement to create the “Qatar Shell Professorship” to honour an outstanding professor at Tamuq in support of academic, development and research activities in the field of energy and environment.
The signing ceremony took place at Tamuq and was attended by interim dean of the branch campus Dr Ann L Kenimer and QSRTC vice-president Youssif A Saleh.
As part of the agreement, the QSRTC will fund the Qatar Shell Professorship, the goals of which are to develop greater understanding of issues relating to energy and environment, and facilitate the integration these concepts in the academic syllabus at Tamuq.
The collaboration would also allow faculty to enhance their research programmes and encourage discussions about these topics with key stakeholders and the public in Qatar, and help promote them worldwide.
The designated professor will have at least 15 years of post-qualification experience, a Ph.D related to energy and environment, and a record of active scholarship and specialisation in the field of energy and environment.
Kenimer said: “This collaboration demonstrates our determination to work hand in hand with QSRTC to enhance our research capacity and create new research and development opportunities at our branch campus. We believe that QSRTC is a valuable partner in our quest to promote long term and sustainable solutions in the field of energy and environment.”
QSRTC vice-president Saleh said: “We are extremely proud to once again collaborate with Tamuq. QSRTC works closely with universities and schools to develop local Qatari talent and enhance technical capabilities, therefore delivering sustainable impact in support of the Qatar National Vision 2030."
