Under the patronage of HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani, Qatar’s Second National Identity Seminar will kick off tomorrow with the theme, ‘The role of educational institutions in promoting National Identity.’
The two-day seminar will be held at Sharq Village and Spa Hotel, and is organised by the Qatar Heritage and Identity Centre, and sponsored by Vodafone Qatar.
The details of the seminar were announced at a joint press conference addressed by Dr Khalid Youssef al-Mulla, executive director of Qatar Heritage and Identity Centre, and Mohamed al-Yami, director of External Affairs at Vodafone Qatar.
Dr al-Mulla, said that the second edition of the seminar highlights national identity as key element in any community in today’s era of globalisation and the rapid changes and developments that communities witness.
Al-Yami said: “Vodafone Qatar is seeking to revive and promote the Qatari heritage, which will contribute to strengthening the concepts and values of our national identity. Since its establishment, Vodafone Qatar has aimed to strengthen Qatari values and traditions and instill a sense of belonging and citizenship.”
The seminar will witness a number of local and international prominent speakers. The second National Identity Seminar focuses on the present period and the future. It discusses how national educational institutions can guard the Qatari identity and whether foreign schools have a negative impact on Arabic language and on national identity.
The seminar also compares Qatari education experiment and its role in promoting identity with other nations in the region. Following the overwhelming success of the first edition, the second seminar marks the great responsibility to help in achieving the Qatar National
Vision 2030.
