A Doha Criminal Court is hearing a case in which three persons are accused of attempting to smuggle illicit drugs into Qatar by sea.
According to local Arabic daily Arrayah, two of the three accused tried to enter Qatari waters one night while the third person was waiting for them on a beach.
However, after Coast Guard personnel spotted them and ordered them to surrender, firing some warning shots, they dumped the hashish - weighing dozens of kilos - they were carrying into the sea.
The two men were arrested and their partner was also nabbed while trying to escape. Divers were also deployed by the authorities concerned to retrieve the packs of contraband dumped into the sea.
