Al Rayyan Stadium has passed a major safety milestone as it completed 1.3 million man hours without Lost Time Incident (LTI), an industry standard for work completed without accidents. This milestone for the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) came as work continues to progress on the new home of Qatar Stars League champions Al Rayyan, set for completion in 2019. Al Rayyan Stadium is a proposed host venue for matches up to the quarter-finals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar.
“The milestone of 1.3 million man hours without Lost Time Incident is very important to us, as we have very stringent site security and rules in place,” said Abdulla al-Fehani, SC Al Rayyan Project Manager. “Safety is always our top priority and we are constantly working to make sure that the highest safety and security practices are in place for any task that is carried out on site. We aim to eventually leave a lasting legacy of safety practices in people’s daily lives.”
The milestone was marked recently with an awards ceremony which featured construction workers from the companies and contractors involved in the SC project, including Bin Omran, Nakheel, Ramboll, Manco International and AECOM. Safety days and awards ceremonies are held on a regular basis across all SC project sites as a top priority is placed on ensuring a safe and secure working environment for all those building the stadiums and facilities for the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar.
Children visit Khalifa Stadium
For a former Qatar national team player and a group of 25 children from a local primary school, an excursion to the accommodation of construction workers of the Khalifa International Stadium was a special opportunity to express their gratitude to those helping to build the country’s future. The school visit facilitated by the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) took place recently at the accommodation of MIDMAC company construction workers.
“This is a fantastic initiative by these kids to meet and thank the workers for their efforts,” former Qatar national team player Adel Lamy told www.sc.qa. “These kids are the country’s future as footballers and citizens. And they are sending a message that labour is appreciated and rewarded. They are saying that no job is small and insignificant and that the workers are doing something really huge for them.”
The 25 children, aged 9 and 10, were from the Saad Bin Abi Waqas Independent School for Boys, and were visibly excited as they headed to the workers’ accommodation in their school bus. On the way to the accommodation, three of the school children said that their aspiration was to represent their country in the world’s greatest sporting event in 2022. And all of them unequivocally stated their objective was to personally thank the people building the venues of the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar.
“We will tell them of our gratitude for their efforts to give their children back home a better life, and to provide us with a fantastic stadium,” said Abdulrahman Mohammed Riaz.
In addition to meeting the workers, playing football and volleyball, the children also delivered self-made personalised thank you cards.
“This is one of the best gifts I have ever received,” said Gardev Singh, a 50-year-old construction worker from India. “We know the value of making things with our hands.”

Saying goodbye is never easy, especially when you are saying farewell to those that have left a positive impression. That was the case earlier this month when Canada hosted Mexico in a friendly at BC Place stadium in Vancouver.
