Qatar and Georgia yesterday signed two Memoranda of understanding (MOUs) in the fields of veterinary health, livestock production and economic, scientific and technical co-operation in agriculture.
HE the Minister of Municipality and Environment Mohamed bin Abdullah al-Rumaihi and the Georgian Minister of Agriculture Otar Danelia signed the MoUs in the presence of a number of officials of both sides.
In a press statement on the occasion, Minister al-Rumaihi pointed out that the signing of the MoUs would widen the scope of co-operation between Qatar and Georgia in the field of agricultural investment and livestock production and that GCC nations would benefit from it.
The Georgian Minister of Agriculture expressed his pleasure over the signing of the two Memoranda of understanding.
HE Sheikh Dr Faleh bin Nasser al-Thani, Assistant Undersecretary of Agricultural Affairs, Livestock and Fisheries, at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment said that the co-operation between the two sides had existed in the field of importing live animals, pointing out that the signing of the MoUs will enhance investment opportunities in the field of food security.
The first MoU seeks to exchange information on veterinary health and animal production activities as well as the exchange of information through an early warning system on the epidemiological situation, co-operation in, artificial insemination development, experiences in the field of livestock research, animal feed production and legislation issued in this area.
The second MoU seeks to develop co-operation between the two countries in the areas of support and facilitation of the import and export of food and agricultural products, animal husbandry, animal and plant production, food processing and training of specialists in the field of agriculture as well as activating co-operation between scientific research centres and co-operation in the fields of veterinary, plant protection and measures to combat diseases, pests and weed control measures.
