Striker Harry Kane is confident he can thrive against any opposition after scoring in England’s come-from-behind 3-2 win against Germany in Saturday’s international friendly. Kane, who has 21 Premier League goals for Tottenham Hotspur this season, brought England back in the game when he slotted home after outwitting two Germany defenders.
Kane, however, insists he is not a guaranteed starter for the Euros in France. “All I can do is keep working hard and give the manager a problem, but I feel like I can score against any team in the world,” Kane told British media.
“You have to believe in yourself as a striker, that if you get the opportunities you will put them away. You dream about scoring against teams like Germany on the big stage.”
England were to play the Netherlands in a second international friendly at Wembley last night and Kane says he is prepared for the extra attention from defenders. “Maybe I’ll be a marked man in the summer. Again, that is football,” he added. “If you want to be one of the top players in the world, you have to deal with that. I am happy for the challenge.”
England have been drawn in Group B for the June 10-July 10 Euro championships alongside Russia, Slovakia and Wales. Manager Roy Hodgson’s men kick-off their campaign against Russia on June 11.
Lewandowski extends Bayern contract: report
Poland striker Robert Lewandowski has extended his Bayern Munich contract until 2021, according to a report in German magazine Sport Bild.
The 27-year-old is having a stellar season for the reigning German champions having netted 25 Bundesliga goals and scored 36 times in all competitions.
He has been linked to the likes of Real Madrid and a host of English clubs, including Manchester City, who current Bayern boss Pep Guardiola will coach next season.
According to Sport Bild, Bayern have improved Lewandowski’s contract meaning he is the fifth Munich player, along with Thomas Mueller, Jerome Boateng, Javi Martinez and David Alaba, tied to the Bavarian giants until 2021.
Lewandowski trained with the Bayern squad yesterday having come off the bench in Poland’s 5-0 drubbing of Finland on Saturday in Wroclaw after the Poles beat Serbia 1-0 last Wednesday in a friendly. Having signed for Borussia Dortmund in 2010, Lewandowski matured into one of the world’s top strikers before joining Bayern Munich on a free transfer in 2014.
CSKA Sofia to unveil Stoichkov statue
CSKA Sofia will unveil a statue of former European footballer of the year Hristo Stoichkov at their stadium where thousands of supporters queued to get into the ground during his trophy-laden spell at the Bulgarian club in the 1980s.
Stoichkov, considered Bulgaria’s all-time greatest player, won three league titles and four national cups with CSKA before joining Barcelona in 1990.
“It’ll be a two-metre bronze statue,” sculptor Kostadin Nenov told a news conference. “The desire of Mr Stoichkov was for the statue to be smaller but I think it’s inappropriate.”
Stoichkov, 50, led Bulgaria to the 1994 World Cup semi-finals in the United States, the greatest achievement in the Balkan country’s soccer history. CSKA, one of the two most popular Bulgarian clubs alongside city rivals Levski Sofia, have not won the domestic title since 2008.
The Reds, heavily in debt, were demoted to Bulgaria’s third tier in June, but they still attract the biggest attendances in the Black Sea state.

Saying goodbye is never easy, especially when you are saying farewell to those that have left a positive impression. That was the case earlier this month when Canada hosted Mexico in a friendly at BC Place stadium in Vancouver.
